UPSC (Union Public Service Preliminary Examination) which conducts the Indian Administrative Services (IAS) and (Indian Police Service) IPS and other competitive exam at the top level would conduct the preliminary exam on June 2017 instead of the month of August which happens on an annual basis.
This has happened after a space of three years where the board for civil services examination would be conducting the IAS examination in June instead of August.
As per the UPSC calendar the exam for the year 2017 has been scheduled for the 18th of June.
All the prelims exams since 2014 till 2016 were conducted in the month of August as per the words of a senior UPSC official.
The decision for this was taken to ensure that the whole process for examination is completed in the desired time period. The prelims exam for the year 2013 was held on the month of May.
This exam is mainly targeted to select civil servants as IAS and IPS officers in government organizations at the central level; held at three levels viz. preliminary, mains and interview and thousand of candidates appear for this test every year at different centres across our country.
