Be More Inclusive in Your Everyday Life.
We are all different and that’s beautiful!
Every individual needs to be valued and respected irrespective of where they come from, how they identify themselves or the values they believe in. BYJU’S strives to nurture an all-inclusive work culture where everyone is given equal opportunities to learn and grow.
With this in mind, the Mantra of the Month for March is focused on being inclusive everyday and making people around us feel valued, seen and heard. Inculcating this mantra also adds a more diverse perspective to our thinking; so it’s a win-win for everybody!
Wondering where to begin? Start with these simple, practical and intentional actions:
Practice empathy
Empathy is the ability to see the world through another’s perspective.
It’s a good first step to being inclusive as it allows us to be sensitised to others’ needs.
Amplify other people’s ideas and contributions
True inclusivity is about being supportive, encouraging, and team-centric.
This means, amplifying other people’s ideas and contributions whenever you feel they are not being appropriately considered.
Be mindful in your communications:
If used inappropriately, our words can express wrong intentions or create misunderstandings.
So listen more and try to use inclusive language.
Avoid assumptions:
Although assumptions are often developed unconsciously, it is important to recognise the moment when we apply them in our interactions with others.
Proactively educate yourself first on being more inclusive:
By doing a simple research online, you can find many essays, articles, reports, academic and non-academic resources on how to be more inclusive in your life.
It doesn’t matter which channels you use to inform yourself, but it matters that you do it in a proactive way.
Spark a dialogue, build awareness, and inspire action:
Change starts with you, so be a conversation-starter and inspire others around you.
Don’t forget, becoming and remaining inclusive is a process. And as it is with all processes, it’s important to remain open and curious, to continue looking for opportunities to learn about various topics.
Inclusion is about all of us. So do your bit to create a truly inclusive world around you where everyone can be themselves – a place where you can be YOU!
