Sixteen-year-old Hrishikesh Tiwari from Kashipur, Uttarakhand, is in love with numbers! The tricky formulae, fun equations, and mind-boggling puzzles are what excite Hrishikesh the most. Topping his school with 99.4 percent in his CBSE Class 10th board exam, Hrishikesh talks about how he fell in love with numbers and what role BYJU’S played in his numerically charged life.

It’s raining numbers!

Hrishikesh was twelve-years-old when he fell in love with maths. In his own words, “I was researching Sir Srinivasa Ramanujan’s work for an assignment. While going through several documents about his life, I stumbled upon one that talked about his excellent math skills and how he derived a set of infinite series that seemed to be the fastest way to approximate Pi. I was spellbound by his hold on the subject and his crazy interest in numbers! That day, his story struck a chord with me and I started taking the subject more seriously. Gradually, I started spending more time solving math equations, taking part in quizzes, and eventually, I fell in love with the subject.”

Beyond the digits – detectives and doodles!

Hrishikesh’s many interests are all interconnected. Along with solving math puzzles, he likes to devote his free time to reading detective novels. “My favourite writer is Enid Blyton. Her books are very engrossing and invite a reader to think hard and solve the case,” says the avid reader. That is not all. Hrishikesh’s extraordinary sketching skills coupled with his penchant for creative thinking found the ideal outlet in the form of doodling. Now and then one can find him sitting in a corner and happily giving life to a wildlife scenery!

A surprising change in his life

From being an average student throughout his life to scoring 99.4 percent in the 10th board exams with a third rank and sixth rank in his district and state respectively, Hrishikesh’s shares the secret to his success. He says he attributes his success to two life-changing moments – discovering Sir Ramanujan’s interest in math and discovering the BYJU’S learning app. “While Sir Ramanujan encouraged me to fall in love with math, the BYJU’S App helped me become a better learner. The interesting video graphics and practical examples in the app helped me clear my basic concepts in math and science,” says Hrishikesh. He further adds, “I started preparing for my board exams from April onwards. I followed the study routine set by my mentor and made a lot of notes for each topic. Finally, three months before the exam, I revised all my chapters thoroughly and practised sample papers from the app.”

Hrishikesh’s golden tips to prepare for an exam:

  • Firstly, begin your preparation by understanding the concepts thoroughly. BYJU’S App helps in getting a clear understanding of the topics with rich visuals and real-life examples.
  • It is important that you love the subject you are studying. This will ensure that you understand the applications of the concepts instead of resorting to rote learning for the sake of exams.
  • Read the N.C.E.R.T textbooks line by line. This is very important as all the questions are based on these books.
  • Make notes for each topic that you study. These notes will help you understand better and can come handy right before the exam.
  • Practise a lot of sample papers and mock tests by using a timer to habituate yourself to the exam timing.
  • Ensure that you completely revise the entire syllabus at least twice before the exam.
  • Lastly, take enough study-breaks, eat well, and sleep on time to keep yourself away from stress.

We are confident that Hrishikesh’s study tips will surely help other students prepare for their exams. Team StoryWeavers wishes this math enthusiast all the best for his future.
