From braving rainstorms, to swimming in rivers, from writing letters to video chatting, from making new friends to protecting each other from bullies. We got to read some thrilling, some emotional and some hilarious anecdotes from our students’ lives, and thank you to all for participating.

Congratulations to the winners of the “Friends For Ever Contest”

Rhea M, “From ‘Mimosa Pudica’ to ‘Samosa with Pudina”

Back in second grade, I was a curious little girl, who preferred to observe the plants around the basketball court, instead of playing in the court like the other kids. One day, the touch me not or shame plant, as it is called, really grabbed my attention and I begun experimenting with it.

On my little endeavour, a classmate, who I never really noticed until then,  walked towards me, quite shyly and explained that it was called the ‘ Mimosa Pudica’ . At first, I was startled the there was someone interested in plants, like me, but  then we began exchanging facts and discovered we had so much more in common which bloomed into the beginning of our friendship. Soon she started to grow on me, (considering the fact we bonded on plants!! ) and we were inseparable by the end of the year. Now seven years later, I truly am grateful for having such a wonderful friend. She’s been there for me everytime I needed something and has always supported me in all my decisions. Though there have been weeds in our friendship, the understanding that we share makes it easier to pull them. With her by my side everything seems brighter, because flaws and all, I know that she’ll always be there for me, the way I’ll be there for her. Erin, if you’re reading this, I hope you realise how much you mean to me!! Hope this lets you know that whatever the odds, we’ll get through it together!!

Here’s to our friendship that grew from discussing ‘ Mimosa Pudica’ to enjoying evening eating ‘Samosa with Pudina’

Urvi Kashyap, “She doesn’t know this, but she changed my life”

She doesn’t know this, but she changed my life. She was there for me when it seemed like no one else was. Well yes you guessed it right. It’s the person who every human being or almost every person has or once had in their lifetime. This person knows all your darkest secrets and has solutions to life problems that are way more tough than rocket science. This person is universally termed as : BEST FRIEND

When most of my friends were dissolving around me and I just didn’t feel like I could do anything right, she was there, and she made everything seem okay. It didn’t matter that I was inevitably going to just pass with a 85%  or that my father told me that he was disappointed in me because I just didn’t seem focused lately, or that my other friends just weren’t talking to me anymore. It didn’t matter because she was there and she made me feel safe. She encouraged me to study even hard and to make my parents feel  proud. She’s my best friend, and I love her and admire her for so many different reasons. This little creature has taught me some basic math trick I didn’t know until she told me that nine’s table is the upside down version of simple numbers 1 to 9. I found that lame though. It seems that, no matter what the situation be she knows it well that the solution will be. Best of our memories are the weirdest things one could ever do. We’ve gone swimming in November, rolled down the car windows and barked at pedestrians, and stayed up until 6 am playing cards. We’ve known each other so long that we don’t even have to finish our entire sentence before the other one knows what we’re trying to say and responds. She knows what I’m thinking before I say it, and she knows how I feel before I do. In some ways we’re polar opposites, but at the same time, we almost seem to share a brain. In fact, most of our conversations are peppered with exclamations of, “I’m so glad I’m not the only one who does that,” and, “That’s exactly what I’ve been trying to say!”

Thank you for always being there and making my life beautiful. I am constantly amazed by her ability to stay strong through situations in which most people would crumble. When everything in her life was going wrong, instead of collapsing under the stress and the fear, she opened herself up to learn from it, and to become a better person. Through these experiences, she has learned not to waste her time worrying. She doesn’t hesitate to do what makes her happy, doesn’t worry about pleasing everyone, and doesn’t let small setbacks bother her, and I hope that I can be as strong and high-spirited as I have seen her be. I must confess this that no matter however the  situation be, she would always have my back and I would have hers

Sehar Saleem, “Making my happiness everlasting with her presence”

My bestie is everything for me. Well, I don’t have many friends in school because most of them are not of ‘my type’. So, she is the one who mostly accompanies me there. By ‘ my type’ I mean the ones who are book-lovers, don’t talk much, Harry Potter fans or those who enjoy studying science. I call her Sarah. People say that we are Siamese twins as we always stick to each other. Both of us have many things in common, like in our free time we visit the library, read a book and various other things.

Even though she is my best friend, we don’t talk much to each other. Our priceless conversations are mostly revolved around the  Harry Potter world, The chronicles of Narnia, the latest happenings, our examination grades, studies and some important news. But we rarely discuss things like what’s going at home, family or personal matters. Yes, even though  both of us should share our secrets to each other as it helps in strengthening of relationships, yet we refrain from such discussions. She says that they are,’boring and baseless’. I agree with her.

When someone at school makes fun of being a spectacled girl and too funny (bullying), she is the one who shields me from those bullies and even picks up fights with them. Well, talking about grades, I got good grades(yes! the improved ones) in my mid-term examinations, but Sarah couldn’t reach the top spot and got worried about the board exams. I just comforted her and told her that we were still a long way in scoring the highest marks in our board exams and that could only be achieved if we worked more harder with a lot of determination. We like to study and when I ask Sarah about her aims and ambitions, she doesn’t know what to say. I have already decided to opt for science ,but she is just hoping for the best. We don’t talk much in class and don’t indulge in idle gossips like others. Our teachers even complain of our quietness and loneliness at school. Isn’t it ironic that the same teachers who tell us to shut our mouths complain that we talk very less?! We don’t visit each others homes as she lives a great deal far away from my residence. But I often call and chat with her. Both of us are helping hands to each other and when she needs some help in homework, I send her  the snapshot of the answer and that’s what she does in return for me. We love to share our other’s lunch boxes with each other, and there’s always a great variety to choose from!

Next year, we will be starting our eleventh grade which is exciting yet horrifying. Luckily, we’ve been together for the past three years and I hope that she continues to stay with me throughout my school and college life(and beyond) to make my happiness everlasting with her presence. In fact, she is the most generous and brave friend I’ve ever had. Thank you for everything!

P.S. : May God give you a long life!
