Sunday Challenge #25 – Wildlife
Welcome back to BYJU’S Sunday Challenge! This past week, the world celebrated World Wildlife Day, a day to celebrate the many beautiful and varied forms of wild fauna and flora and to raise awareness about the importance of conservation. To commemorate the special day, this edition of Sunday Challenge is dedicated to wildlife.
Remember:
You can take a shot at the questions and field your guesses in the comments section below. Answers will be revealed on subsequent Sundays in the comment section. The fastest entries to get all questions right will receive a special goodie bag from BYJU’S.
Ready? Here are your questions:
Question 1.
What is the Swahili word for ‘Lion’? (Hint: Think of all the famous lions you know!)
Question 2.
Identify this little rodent that is found in the arid deserts of North America. It can survive without consuming any water, extracting the required amount from the seeds that form the majority of its diet. It gets its name because of the way it hops around, reminiscent of an animal from a completely different continent.
Question 3.
This little creature feeds on feces and is deceptively strong. It can carry up to 250 times its own body weight, the equivalent of an average sized man carrying a big car. These creatures are divided into three types – rollers, tunnelers and dwellers. Identify this creature.
Question 4
The pattern of regular sounds that this marine mammal makes is called a song. These creatures have been described as “inveterate composers” because of how similar their sounds are to music composed by humans. Identify this creature.
Question 5
One of the most intelligent primates and known for their sophisticated use of tools, the name of this critically endangered species comes from the Malay phrase meaning ‘man of the forest’. Which great ape is this?
Take your guesses in the comments section below. Winners of this edition, along with the answers will be revealed next Sunday in the comments section, so keep your eyes peeled!
