For the fifth edition of the BYJU’S Sunday Challenge, put on your scuba gear and dive into The Underwater World
Ready? Here are your questions!
Question 1
This is a curious little crustacean that lives in warm, shallow waters and grows to be 6-12 inches long. What is fascinating about them is their eyes. While humans have just 3 photoreceptor cells in our eyes, this creature has 16. Scientists have discovered that this allows them to perceive polarised light, which can be a handy trick to spot otherwise invisible prey in the water. What is this colourful creature called, which also shares its name with a particularly ‘religious’ land-dwelling insect?
Question 2
Pictured below is a fascinating whale that lives in the Arctic sea. Unlike other whales, it has a long tusk protruding from its mouth. In medieval times, this tusk was often sold as the horn of a unicorn and was claimed to have magical powers. Identify this strange sea creature.
Question 3
This is a newly discovered species of fish called the Vibranium fairy wrasse. Found in secretive, isolated coral reefs off the coast of Tanzania, its scientific name is a tribute to which mythical kingdom from the world of comic books?
Question 4
This species of octopus is found at the extreme depths of the ocean, between 1,000 – 7,000 meters deep. It gets its name because of its resemblance to a Disney cartoon that can be best described as a flying pachyderm. What is the name of this creature, about which much is still not known?
Leave your guesses in the comments section below. And remember, answers will be revealed next Sunday in the comments section too, along with a brand new edition of BYJU’S Sunday Challenge.
