The Defence Research and Development Organisation is India’s largest agency under the Ministry of Defence. Its network of 52 laboratories develops defence technology ranging from aeronautics and armaments to life sciences. Here are some projects by the DRDO:

Developed for evacuation of battlefield casualties with in-built medical equipment. It can carry four stretcher patients along with two medical attendants.

Jointly developed by DRDO and NPOM, Russia, this long-range supersonic cruise missile system can be launched from land, sea, and air.

DRDO has designed and developed Agni Missiles – I to V and inducted them into the forces to meet the security requirements of the country. Agni V is a nuclear-capable intercontinental ballistic missile.

Are designed to help stop aircraft within a specified landing speed during normal and emergency situations. All the fighter aircraft of IAF use the brake parachute developed by DRDO.

Is an electrically propelled anti-submarine torpedo that can target quiet submarines both in deep or shallow waters. It’s being used by the Indian Navy since 2016.

The Defence Institute of High Altitude Research, a unit of DRDO, has helped introduce watermelon into local farmers' fields. These farmers have earned ₹12 lakhs per hectare.
