MALALA DAY – Celebrating the Brave Achiever that is Malala Yousafzai

Malala Yousafzai stunned the world surviving a gunshot to her head on her way to school. Shot by the Taliban along with two of her other friends for the sole reason that they were girls still attending school, she recuperated only to become an activist for female education and supported millions of children, specially girls in their venture to gain their right to education.

Just 20 years of age, she has inspired nations, women and children from all corners of the earth to stand up for their rights.

Here are a few of her achievements in the last one year:

1. In March 2018, Malala announced her next book – We Are Displaced: True Stories of Refugee Lives that will be published on 4 September 2018. The book is about refugees, and will include stories from her life.Profits from the book will go to Yousafzai’s charity Malala Fund.
2. Malala started her course in Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) at Oxford in August 2017
3. She received an honorary doctorate along with her father from the University of Ottawa on April 12th, 2017
4. On 29th March 2018, Malala returned to Pakistan for the first time since the shooting in 2012 and met Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and mentioned that it is her dream to return “without any fear”
5. In 2017, Malala was designated as the official United Nations Messenger of Peace. She is the youngest UN peace messenger ever
6. For her constant endeavour to educate young girls Malala was given the Ellis Island International Medal of Honor.
7. On 7th July, 2017, Malala joined Twitter to share her messages of peace, women’s rights, speaking up against poverty, child marriage and war.
