This International Youth Day, Here Are 5 Ways To Contribute To Sustainable Development
India is one of the youngest nations in the world with 66% of the population under 35 years of age. In a country with such a large percentage of youth, their role in nation-building and sustainable development becomes extremely crucial.
International Youth Day celebrates young people’s voices, actions and initiatives. This year, we bring to you 5 ways in which the youth can contribute to sustainable development.
1. Volunteering
National development is not only about focusing on individual growth but also thinking of sustainable development. It is our responsibility too to pay attention to concerning environmental issues. We can consider teaming up with a local NGO to work towards a cause that moves us or even start our own initiative with like-minded people.
2. Conscious Living
National and sustainable development go hand-in-hand. We need to be conscious of our day-to-day choices in life while keeping our long-term ones in mind. For instance, choosing to recycle plastic, or shopping responsibly are smaller informed actions that lead to the larger sustainable growth of the nation.
3. Amplifying Voices
Voicing our opinions on important issues is instrumental in driving social change. Whether it is about advocating the significance of resource depletion or biodiversity loss, expressing ourselves is essential, if we want to see change.
4. Awareness
Awareness is a strong weapon that empowers us to take action. It is important to be cognizant of the issues around us, be it environmental concerns or the need for quality education in the world. Ignorance might be bliss but it certainly is not going to effect change.
5. Innovation
Think differently! When there doesn’t seem to be a straightforward solution to an issue that is close to your heart, think out of the box. For instance, S Cafe has created a method of transforming coffee grounds into wearable textiles, hence reducing waste. There are so many such examples around us. Get inspired, and use your own individual style to fix the unfixable.
Tell us in the comments below if you have followed any of these ways for sustainable development or tell us a new method.
