The lockdown has bestowed upon us an opportunity to exercise our creative sides and try out something new – like cooking, gardening, or perhaps learning how to ride a bicycle. Out of the many students who shared their hobbies with us during the #learnathon series, we met Aishwarya A Villas from Bangalore. 12-year-old Aishwarya’s favourite hobby is shaking a leg to the latest  tunes! From hip-hop to contemporary, she has explored several dance forms, diligently learning each one at a time.

On a normal day, one would find her spending her evening in the dance classes, perfecting a move or two. But with the nationwide lockdown, that routine hit a sudden pause. Instead, now, she practices her moves through online classes and is learning how to choreograph. “I always wanted to learn choreography. I learn from popular artists who put out their training classes online,” she says with a grin. She further adds, “Right now, I am learning to choreograph a fun hip-hop piece and will soon share it with the world on my YouTube channel!”

With BYJU's Classes, Aishwarya can balance her time between studies and other activities.

Aishwarya with her parents

If you think this seventh grader’s interest is limited to dance alone, think again. In her own words, “I never spend a minute sitting idle. Either I am studying or spending time with one of my hobbies like dancing, painting, playing badminton, or surfing the internet!”

With an innate affinity towards learning through technology, she was quick to adopt the BYJU’S way of learning when she first got introduced to BYJU’S – The Learning App. “My parents purchased the BYJU’S product when I was in 5th grade and since then I’ve been solely banking on it for my studies,’’ claims the 12-year-old. The app’s personalised learning structure allows her to dive into anything that fits her needs while letting her learn at a pace and pattern that suits her the best.

With BYJU’S, Math is not a problem!

For Aishwarya, as much as scientific experiments bounce her off the wall with excitement, mathematical problems equally make her struggle. “I don’t like Maths!” she declares flatly. “But with BYJU’S conceptual learning style, I can understand the subject better. The app has concept-based exercises after each video. In case I don’t get all the answers correct in the exercise, I go back to the same video and watch it over and over until I get the concept right.”

A new learning routine

With her school shut due to COVID-19, Aishwarya’s brand new endeavour is BYJU’S Classes, where she gets to learn from India’s top teachers and get all her doubts cleared on the spot. She says, “With BYJU’S Classes, I have a regular timetable that allows me to learn all the concepts in Science and Maths with my App’s teachers. Since there is a set timetable, I read the chapter beforehand and keep my questions ready to ask during the class. This way, I understand the topic better and retain it for a longer period.”

BYJU'S Classes

Being humble, that she is, Aishwarya was quick to acknowledge the positive role of her BYJU’S Mentor, Mr Sharan. “Sharan sir has always been very encouraging, especially while motivating me to overcome my fear of Maths. He shares extra exercise worksheets for my weak topics and provides timely feedback on my performance. Together with his guidance and BYJU’S online Classes, I can now follow a regular study routine and learn at my own convenience.”

With online classes for studies and dance to fill her days, Aishwarya is all set to seize every day as a fresh opportunity. It is students like her that remind us that anyone can fall in love with learning. All it takes is a little bit of curiosity. Team StoryWeavers wishes Aishwarya all the best for her bright future.
