If you’re looking for ways to have some fun, we have just the activity for you. Presenting the Tie-Dye DIY, where you colour a t-shirt or any other white garment of your choice into patterns as random, crazy and different as time right now. You can think of it a souvenir from the quarantine era of your life!

While reincarnation of human is a matter of fiction, but it can be a reality in the case of your old white t-shirt.  We guarantee you that with this DIY.

If you don’t have a white t-shirt to spare, you can also take a black t-shirt and tie-dye it using bleach. Although it is advised to take the help of an adult while using bleach.

So let’s gear up and begin dyeing right away, because any day is a good day to dye hard!

Materials required:

1. Fabric colours of your choice

2. Spray/dropper/squeeze bottle

3. 1 glass of water

4. White cotton t-shirt/handkerchief/any other cotton garment of your choice

5. Plastic sheet

6. Rubber bands

Directions:

  1. Take the plastic sheet. Put the white t-shirt on top of it. Crumple the t-shirt in any random order. If you want to try any other pattern, refer the image below. Tie it up in the pattern of your preference using rubber bands. The tighter you bind it, the more white there will be in the final shirt.
  2. Now, chose your colours. You can chose more than one colour also. Take 10 ml of the colour and mix some water in it.
  3. Now spray the colour(s) on the tied t-shirt. If you have chosen more than one colour for this experiment, ensure to spray the two colours in separate areas on the t-shirt.
  4. Tie up t-shirt in the plastic sheet using a rubber band and leave it for 4-5 hours.
  5. Now rinse the t-shirt with normal water. Let it dry and then set the colour into the t-shirt by pressing it with an iron.
  6. Now you can wash the t-shirt normally, but don’t wash it with any other clothes, as they may get unwanted stains from the fabric colours.
  7. Your tie-dye t-shirt is ready!

You can wear this reincarnated t-shirt of yours or even gift it to your friends and family. And the best part is how simple and amusing it is. “It’s virtually impossible to tie-dye incorrectly,” says textile artist Shabd Simon-Alexander, author of Tie-Dye: Dye It, Wear It, Share It. And just as the name of her book suggests we urge you to – dye it, wear it, and share your Tie-Dye DIY experience with us in the comment section below!
