DIY Corner: The Marble Maze
Don’t you want your child to be involved in activities that are both fun and educational at the same time? Such as those that hone their gross motor skills and help build a problem-solving mindset while playing? Here’s one such activity for your child – the Marble maze! Check out its DIY process below:
Things needed:
- 1 empty cardboard box lid
- 1 marble or a small ball of aluminium foil
- Paper straws (optional)
- Clay or playdough (store-bought or homemade)
- Glue (optional)
- Paints and brushes (optional)
Method:
- Gather all the materials together
- Take the clay or playdough and make snake-like shapes out of it. Once ready, keep them aside
- Take the empty cardboard box lid and paint it in your favourite colours (optional)
- Then use the playdough or clay snakes to make patterns in the lid. There should be a clear start and endpoint for the maze
- Ensure that there is enough space for the marble or aluminium foil ball to roll between the lanes created with the playdough or clay
- Use the straws to create bumpers or obstacles that would make the movement of the marble difficult. This can be done based on how quickly your child learns to navigate the marble through the maze.
- Lastly, play!
Once the maze is done, ask your child to gently move the marble through it by tilting the lid back and forth.
You can further up the fun factor in this game by conducting competitions for kids or helping them speed up their process by timing them!
