Jane’s Journal – A Visit To Cozy Camp

Dear Diary,

Today was such a fun day! Yvette was so nice to invite us to help her find the largest butterfly in the world – The Queen Alexandra Birdwing! It was such a lovely sight to see it spread its wings. While looking for it, we also learnt so many fun facts about butterflies. Here are some for you.

  • Butterflies are insects.
  • A butterfly’s life cycle is made up of four stages – egg, caterpillars, pupa and adult.
  • A special glue is used by butterflies to stick their eggs onto leaves.
  • Most caterpillars are plant eaters (herbivores).
  • Depending on the species of butterflies, they can survive as an adult for about a week to a year.
  • They have four brightly coloured wings with a unique design that is made of tiny scales.
  • Most butterflies feed on nectar from flowers.
  • Red, yellow and green are the colours that can be seen by the butterflies.
  • Flutter is the word used to describe a group of butterflies flying together and not flock. Isn’t that interesting?

Well, hope you enjoyed that as much as Jax and I did.
