Stories For Children: A Thirsty Crow
It was a hot summer afternoon, and a crow flew into the sky, searching for water to drink. He had started flying before dawn but was getting tired and nervous now. The crow had looked everywhere for water but finally gave up.
The crow went to rest on a tree branch, from where he finally saw a pitcher. Instantly, he flew to the ground to see if the pitcher had any water. Much to his relief, the pitcher had some water at the bottom. Unfortunately, the crow couldn’t reach it as the pitcher was high with a narrow neck. It was also too heavy to tip over.
After trying a lot to get the water, the crow wanted to quit, but he knew he needs to find a solution. So he looked around and saw some stones. He began dropping the stones one by one into the pitcher. With each stone, the water level kept rising. Eventually, the water reached high enough for the crow to drink it. The crow then flew away proudly, congratulating himself for his cleverness.
Moral of the thirsty crow story:
“It’s hard to beat a person who never gives up.” ― George Herman Ruth
Thinking questions:
- Did you quit something because it was hard?
- Do you believe it’s better to give up when you get stuck or push yourself to find answers?
How to be a hard-working, determined person:
- Make a daily plan for your tasks. Once you complete all the activities, reward yourself with extra playtime.
- Focus on completing your daily tasks and avoid getting distracted as if you were in a contest where winning is finishing everything on time.
- Focusing on several different tasks or activities at once may cause you to feel overwhelmed and upset. Concentrate on one task at a time.
