The world’s first atlas was published on May 22, 1570. Abraham Ortelius, an engraver and a book collector published this first atlas. He called it ‘Theatrum Orbis Terrarum’, which means ‘Theatre of the World’. Ortelius compiled 70 maps together and created history in the fields of map-making and bookmaking.

Some unique features of the first atlas were

  • It was the first of its kind to have a collection of maps in a logical and comprehensive sequence.
  • It also included explanations about the regions that were represented in the map.

To mark this special occasion, we are taking you on a journey to discover amazing rivers, large continents, vast deserts, exotic mountains, historic cities and much more.

Put on your explorer’s hat and dive into the ultimate geography quiz!
