The economic development of any country is often closely linked with its energy consumption. Although, planet has been bestowed with oodles of non-renewable sources of energy, we need to understand that these energies are not going to last for ever. With a population of over 7 billion, our planet has a scarcity of energy when it comes to satisfying each individual’s growing needs. It is time that we all work towards becoming an efficient energy user and save it for our future generations.

Spelling the sense of urgency in conserving energy for our future, the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), under Ministry of power, took the initiative – on 14th December 1991- to highlight on the energy consumption in our day-to-day lives and spread global awareness about the importance of energy conservation.

Non-Renewable sources of Energy

                            Non-Renewable sources of Energy

This year, as we celebrate the 27th year of National Energy Conservation Day, let’s take a step towards creating a more green planet by pledging to conserve energy. Here’s  how we all can begin:

  • Adopt the three important R’s – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle when it comes to saving energy
  • Be more cautious about turning the lights and fans off while leaving a room
  • Save non-renewable energies like petroleum, coal and natural gas. Opt for public commute or maybe even walk instead of using private vehicles.
  • Replace the use of plastic with paper bags and cloth bags while shopping.
  • Switch to solar heaters at home instead of using a geyser.
  • And most importantly, surround your home with lots of plants and trees. Make a habit of celebrating any occasion by planting a sapling whenever you get a chance!

We hope this inspires you to do your bit for a greener and healthier planet and spread awareness about using  renewable sources of energy 🙂
