Gujarat’s Maalav Mehta on cracking KVPY and securing a score of AIR 189
Maalav Mehta from Ahmedabad, who cleared KVPY with an All India Rank of 189, is an all-rounder in his own right. Besides generating top scores consistently throughout his school life, his incredible achievements also include acing several Olympiad exams and winning chess tournaments.
Team Storyweaver caught up with this inspiring achiever, to know more about his success strategy.
When asked about his preparations, here is what he shared,“I started my KVPY preparations from class 10 onwards and wrote the exam in class 11. I would study for at least six hours every day. That includes my school syllabus, practising various mock tests and sample questions, and interacting with my BYJU’S mentor for doubts.” He further added, “A few months before the exam, I used to solve a lot of question papers from books and BYJU’S app. That helped in improving my writing speed as well as boosting my confidence.”
Currently studying in class 12 and preparing for JEE Mains, Maalav believes that if he applies the same study strategies that he followed while preparing for KVPY then he can succeed in future exams as well.

Maalav extensively used BYJU’S for his KVPY preparation. He says, “The recorded lessons with real-life examples helped me a lot in understanding concepts and clearing my doubts. I used to study from my school textbooks and then check out the videos on BYJU’S app to understand the topic better.”
“A couple of months before attempting KVPY, I started trying out mock test papers and solved sample questions papers from BYJU’S quite regularly,” he adds.

Hacks to clear KVPY
Talking about clearing KVPY, Maalav says that it is important to be equally good in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
Maalav believes that there’s a lot one can learn from chess. According to him, chess is a game of concentration, strategy and proper timing.
An incredible achiever
The secret to Maalav’s success is his consistency and discipline. These principles have not just helped him score 88.2 percentile in his class 10 board exam and clear several Olympiad exams. We are sure with determination and hard work, he will clear all upcoming exams with flying colours.
