Bridging unlikely worlds of Maths and Poetry with Tanish Booti

Team StoryWeavers|July 17, 2020, 11:54 IST| 13

The French poet Paul Valéry once famously said, “I worship this most beautiful subject of all and I don’t care that my love remains unrequited.” expressing his admiration for mathematics. It is rather unusual for a poet to be passionate about mathematics, but many believe that actually the two are closely related. The link between these two subjects is creativity, although their methodologies are poles apart.

Tanish Booti, a BYJU’S student from Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan proves the above statement. He is equally passionate about Maths and Poetry. Tanish’s hobbies include reading and writing poetry, staying abreast with the latest news and solving challenging mathematical problems. “I always start and end my study sessions with Maths. It really amuses me,” says Tanish.

Currently studying in class 9, a small part of Tanish’s day goes into teaching his younger sister Purvi. “I am the only one in my family so far who is studying in an English medium school, so I try to ensure that I help her with her studies as much as I can. Although while fighting, we fight like equals!” he quips. “BYJU’S is what helps me in my studies. Because of it, I normally stay ahead of my class. It has been especially very useful since the lockdown,” Tanish adds.

Tanish’s parents believe in his ability to make his own decisions when he grows up. “I just want him to be a good person. As for the rest, he will decide what he wants to do when he grows up,” says his father, a businessman by profession. Who is the stricter parent? “That’s definitely my mother,”  says Tanish, “she knows everything that I am up to and guides me accordingly.”.

Having participated in (and won) many state and national level poetry competitions, you may assume that Tanish may want to be a writer when he grows up, but he has different plans. “I would like to make a career in civil services. If not that, then maybe something in the engineering field,” he says.  “Geometrical concepts, algebra, 3D objects and graphics amuse me more than anything else right now” he elaborates.

Whether it’s the arts or the sciences, whatever Tanish may choose to pursue, with curiosity and a spirit like his, he is bound to succeed. Team Storyweavers wish him a bright future!
