Remember:

Leave your answers in the comments section below. Answers will be revealed on subsequent Sundays. The fastest entries to get all questions right win exciting prizes.

Ready? Here are your questions:

Question 1

Pictured below is a pioneer of aviation. She was the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. Identify her.

Question 2

An aeroplane is a complicated vehicle. While the pilots control it from the cockpit, the most important part of a plane is a small box. The Flight Data Recorder, or the ‘black box’ as it is more commonly known, is an almost invincible device with a record of all the flight’s data so that, in the event of a crash, it can tell us how the crash occurred. Interestingly, the black box is not actually black in colour. What colour is it?

Question 3

Supersonic speed is when the speed of an object exceeds the speed of sound, which is generally called Mach 1. How fast would a plane have to be called hypersonic? (Hint: The answer featured prominently in the anime series Speed Racer).

Question 4

In the world of aviation, what connects the following names: Chetak, Cheetah, Lancer, Rudra and Dhruv.

Question 5

Leonardo Da Vinci may have envisioned and designed the first helicopters, but the man who actually developed the first modern helicopter was someone else. Inspired by Da Vinci from a young age, this Russian aviation engineer grew up with a passion for all things aviation. The engineer shares a name with Dr Frankenstein’s famous assistant and even built his own plane. He spent 30 years developing the helicopter. Who was he?

Take your guesses in the comments section below. This edition’s winners and answers will be revealed next Sunday, so keep your eyes peeled!
