Question 1

The first Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded to Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen, a German physicist who detected the existence of the Röntgen rays, which led to the invention of one of the most useful things in history, used even today. How do we better know Röntgen rays?

Question 2

The most recent Indian to win the Nobel Prize shared it with a Pakistani, who is also the youngest recipient of the prize. Both won it for the Peace category. Name both Nobel laureates.

Question 3

We commonly see Nobel Prizes being awarded in four scientific fields. One of those fields is, however, was not on the original list of categories named by Alfred Nobel. It was added years late, in 1968, funded by Swedan’s central bank, Sveriges Riksbank. Which category was it?

Question 4

When this person won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2016, it was considered controversial. The Nobel committee declared that his lyrics qualify as poetry and justified the awarding of the highest honour in literature to a musician. A common headline in many publications at the time was “The Times They are A-Changin’”, a reference to the title of one of his hit songs. Who is this prolific singer-songwriter?

Question 5

Identify this Indian-born American economist who shared the 2019 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences with his wife Esther Duflo for their “experimental approach to alleviating global poverty”.
