When facing a big challenge with potential failure, people often say, “Have confidence in yourself!”. If only it were that simple, right?
For some people, confidence comes naturally, while others struggle on a daily basis to gain self-confidence. And then there are those who don’t step out of their comfort zone, and oftentimes, miss out on big opportunities like seeking a promotion, taking on a new project, or vocalising their ideas. The September Mantra of the Month focuses on how BYJUites can unlock self-confidence with five actionable steps.
It is the belief in yourself to accomplish a task, no matter the odds, no matter the difficulty, and no matter the adversity. Achieving true self-confidence can lead to positivity, happiness, and the ability to take more risks in life, which will lead to personal and professional rewards.
Self-confidence is dependent on multiple factors like genes, how you were treated in your childhood, the choices you make in life, and the risks you take. Seems overwhelming? Well, fortunately, self-confidence is a skill and like many other skills, it can be mastered with some practice.
1. Try a quick fix
To boost confidence immediately, try quick fixes like picturing your success at the beginning of a difficult task, striking a power pose when you fear a situation or listening to motivational music with heavy bass. All these tricks can help you instantly feel pepped up and confident.
History is filled with millions of examples of people trying new things, failing, and then turning into magnificent successes. So face it, if you try something new, you will very likely fail. But trying new things will make you comfortable with taking more risks. So stretch your comfort zone, it will help you respond to setbacks and challenges in a constructive way.
The most important step in building self-confidence is simply to take action. No matter how scary the task is, take the first step, keep pushing and get it done.
Exercise, eat healthily, meditate, and maintain a good posture – remember, if you feel healthy physically and mentally, you will exude confidence.
Try clothes or a hairstyle that brings out your confident self. The way you look tremendously affects the way people perceive you and the way you perceive yourself.
