In this week’s edition of A Day In The Life Of, a series where BYJUites offer a glimpse into their typical workday – from a morning ritual they religiously follow to how they unwind after a long day at work – we present you Shaheen Sultana. In a quick tête-à-tête, the Academic Success Lead tells us how she made the leap from event management to edtech and what excites her the most about her current role.

Describe your typical workday.
As a Team Lead, I train Academic Specialists on conducting one-on-one online sessions for students and devise a training plan for them.
How would you describe your path to BYJU’S?
Before BYJU’S, I was working at an event management company in Hyderabad. I completed a year there and was still unsure about my future. I always wanted to get into teaching as I used to teach my siblings and take tuition during my college days. Towards the middle of 2019, I decided to give this idea a serious shot and look for a teaching job that would give me the opportunity to interact with students around the world. When I told my father about this, he prompted me to apply at BYJU’S — and it turned out to be one of the best decisions I have ever made.

What excites you the most about your role?
My amazing colleagues and the positive impact we are making in a student’s learning journey is what excites me the most. I joined BYJU’S as an Academic Specialist and as part of my work I got the opportunity to mentor and guide many students and help them resolve their doubts. This gave me a sense of purpose and showed me that I can make a difference through my work.
And what excites you outside of your role?
I’m a huge foodie, and I like finding new places to try new food. To maintain balance, I enjoy working out and going for a run or a walk every day. I also took up painting during the lockdown and now that’s what I do in my leisure time.
What is your biggest learning from working at BYJU’S?
A key skill that I have learned from my role is adaptability. One must be willing to unlearn and learn as it opens up opportunities for exponential growth. As I made the leap from being an Academic Specialist to a Senior Academic Specialist and now a Team Lead, being adaptable and remaining open and flexible in my approach has helped me transition between roles with ease.
Any tips for those aspiring to join BYJU’S?
Take every opportunity that comes your way. Each opportunity is a chance to learn new skills and it’s the best way to grow professionally and personally.
