With BYJU’S EFA, this BYJUite made a difference in the lives of two COVID-19 impacted children

At the onset of the year 2020, most of us were going about our regular lives – work, family, fun, life – until March, when an unexpected visitor decided to shake it up. The news of COVID-19 hit the different countries while claiming thousands of lives within the first few months.

Since then, many of us lost friends, family members, colleagues, while fighting this war against the deadly pandemic. But what’s worse is the collateral damage.

Many of those who live on a hand-to-mouth basis had been rendered jobless and homeless in the initial months. Over 247 million children had lost access to their school education in India.

But, some of these children whose parents became victims of the virus, were left abandoned –  some of them had the support of their near family members, many others didn’t.

G Vamsi Krishna, who works as a Content Developer at BYJU’S, came across two children in his own family, who in an unfortunate turn of events, had lost the breadwinner of the family to the virus. These children have since been under the care of their mother, who is a homemaker.

“Two of my nephews studying in 10th and 11th standard lost their crucial family members during the COVID pandemic, I wanted to help them out in any possible way,” Vamsi shares.

Vamsi, who grew up in Kadapa, Andhra Pradesh, says that he makes it a point to look out for those in need. He tries his best to empathise with them and bring them out of their struggles. 

While looking for a solution for his nephews, Vamsi came across BYJU’S Social Initiatives, an initiative to help educate millions of underserved children in India.

Through one of the initiatives, BYJU’S Education for All, we provide the learning content to all the children in need. On the other hand, through BYJU’S Give, anybody can donate an old device, and we, in turn, provide the children with a fully functional device loaded with BYJU’S learning content.

Vamsi approached the Social Initiatives team at BYJU’S and shared the plight of the children, hoping to extend the learning opportunity with these children. Within no time, he was able to procure the device raised through BYJU’S Give and provide it to the children.

“Personally, I’m very grateful to have been able to help them out through this initiative.  Losing important family members takes a hit on the confidence levels of a young student. They feel lost, and look out for emotional support,” he says.

He believes that the support from BYJU’S EFA symbolises the blessings that the children would’ve received from their late father.

Having gone through similar struggles, Vamsi says that he understands how impactful a kind act can be in trying times. In fact, the BYJUite adds that he never misses a chance to help someone in need. 

He recalls that during his college days, he would often help his juniors and give them the solutions that they need. Whether it was academic support or if they just needed some guidance, Vamsi would make sure to mark his presence with his support.

One of the major things that are compromised in times of distress in every household that lives on a hand-to-mouth basis is the child’s education. But we, as a society, need to take a stand and help out the underserved children of our community stay connected with learning.
