From enhancing onboarding process to employee experience: Akshata Shakargaye takes us through her BYJU’S journey

Follow us on,

Hailing from a small town in Madhya Pradesh, Akshata Shakargaye had always nurtured dreams to make it big in a metropolitan city. When she got an opportunity to move to New Delhi for her higher studies, she jumped at the chance. It was here that she finished her education and got trained as an HR professional. Today, Akshata is an Assistant Manager in the Unit People Partner team at BYJU’S, which takes care of employee experience across North and East India.

“I joined BYJU’S in 2019 as a Regional People Partner. Back then, I was responsible for onboarding and partnering with employees across Punjab, Rajasthan and Delhi NCR. Over the years, my role has expanded to include partnering with BYJUites across major states in the north and east,” says Akshata. “My team and I are the bridge between employees of the northern and eastern states and the central HR teams at our Bangalore headquarters,” she adds.

Streamlining the onboarding process

Working closely with employees across various states means that Akshata has her pulse on how employee experience should be enhanced. This led to her collaborating with People teams across the organisation and helping streamline the onboarding process. “Our seamless onboarding process made it possible for us to onboard so many talented people, even while working remotely,” Akshata shares.

Along with her team, Akshata has also streamlined the document-submission system for candidates, making the process less tedious and easing the pressure on storage requirements.

But what’s more important, adds the HR professional, is ensuring a human touch to an otherwise standard process. “Every new BYJUite is now mapped to someone from the onboarding team. This POC meets them virtually, takes them through the onboarding process from start to finish, and guides them wherever needed,” says Akshata.

Creating a harmonious work environment

For Akshata, the best part about working at BYJU’S is the team dynamics and the collaborative culture. “It’s great to see team members, from managers to senior managers and beyond, develop a relationship that goes beyond work. This camaraderie helped us switch to remote work rather smoothly during the pandemic,” shares the BYJUite.

Besides this, life at BYJU’S has taught Akshata another vital lesson. “Working in a fast-paced and evolving organisation means adapting to the changing needs and always thinking on my feet. I realised the need to become more proactive and seek out the projects and people I would want to work with. Being agile and enthusiastic opens doors to new and exciting opportunities,” shares the BYJUite.

Akshata leaves us with this heartfelt thought: “For me, the BYJU’S journey has been an enriching and fulfilling experience, with ample opportunities for learning and imbibing new skills. If you are passionate about what you do and want to advance your career, you will, unfailingly, find ways to turn those ideas into reality.”
